When you hear “Chemical Peel”, what comes to mind? For many, it’s the dramatic videos floating around social media – faces visibly shedding in sheets, intense redness, and days of hiding out indoors. But that’s not the reality for most people- and definitely not what you’ll experience from the peels provided and WCE.

We offer light to medium-depth clinical chemical peels that are designed to give your skin powerful results with a healing process that’s far more manageable than you may think.

What is a chemical peel?

Chemical peels use exfoliating acids to remove damaged layers of skin, revealing a smoother, clearer, more radiant complexion. The difference between light and medium-depth peels lies in how deeply they penetrate:

Light peels: Exfoliate only the outermost layer of skin (epidermis). These are great for a refreshing glow, improving tone and texture, and reducing minor breakouts.

Medium-depth peels: Reach slightly deeper into the dermis, targeting more stubborn pigmentation, acne scarring, fine lines, and rough texture.

At WCE, we carefully assess your skin type and goals before choosing the right peel strength for you.

Benefits of chemical peels

Whether you’re dealing with acne, pigmentation, or early signs of ageing, a light or medium-depth peel can help:

  • Improve skin tone and texture
  • Brighten dull, tired-looking skin
  • Reduce the appearance of fine lines
  • Minimize breakouts and clogged pores
  • Diminish dark spots and post-inflammatory pigmentation
  • Stimulate healthy cell turnover for long-term skin health

Results are cumulative, so a series of peels can significantly improve overall skin clarity and radiance.

What healing really looks like

Forget what you’ve seen on social media. Your face won’t “fall off”.

The healing process with light and medium depth peels is much gentler than the viral videos suggested.

Here’s what you can typically expect:

  • Day 1-2: Skin may feel tight or slightly war, similar to a mild sunburn.
  • Day 2-4: Light flaking or mild peeling may occur, especially around the mouth, nose, and chin.
  • Day 5-7: Skin may continue to feel dry or lightly textured as it completes its renewal process.

We guide you through every step of the way with personalized post-care instructions and products to support safe and effective healing.

Safe for all skin types & skin tones

One of the biggest misconceptions about chemical peels is that they’re too harsh for sensitive or richly pigmented skin. That’s simply not true- at WCE, our peels are carefully selected and applied to be safe for all skin types and tones, including melanin-rich (darker) skin tones.

Pre-Treatment Prep is key – especially for melanin-rich skin.

To ensure your skin is properly prepped and protected, we require a pre-treatment routine for 1-2 weeks prior to your chemical peel. Especially if your current routine does not currently contain any high quality tyrosinase inhibitors. This helps:

  • Strengthen the skin barrier
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Ensure optimal and even results
  • Minimize the risk of adverse reactions

This routine will be customized during your consultation and may include specific cleansers, serums, or calming topicals depending on your skin’s needs.

Consultation is required

Chemical peels are a clinical treatment- not a one-size-fits-all facial. That’s why we require a consultation before booking a chemical peel.

During your consultation, we will:

  • Assess your skin type, sensitivity, and concerns
  • Determine whether a light or medium-depth peel is right for you
  • Review your current routine and recommend any needed adjustments
  • Discuss what to expect before, during, and after your treatment

What is a pre-treatment routine?

To prepare your skin and reduce the risk of irritation or pigmentation issues, we often recommend a 1-2 week pre-treatment routine, especially for medium-depth peels or melanated skin tones. This may include:

  • Gentle cleanser to avoid stripping the barrier
  • Brightening or exfoliating serums (if needed)
  • Barrier-strengthening products like hyaluronic acid or calming peptides
  • SPF 30+ daily (non-negotiable)

Prepping your skin ensures the peel works evenly and minimizes inflammation.
